Mauritius established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in January 1987 and opened a High Commission in Kuala Lumpur in July 1988. Cooperation between the two countries ranges from cultural exchanges, to trade in goods, financial assistances, capacity building in various sectors. Mr Saleem Rashid Beebeejaun was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Malaysia to Mauritius in August 2008.

The High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is also accredited to the following countries of the South East Asia Region: Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Mission provides consular services to the countries listed above as well as to request from Singapore and Mauritius nationals from Singapore, mainly due to proximity reasons.

The objective of the Mauritius High Commission is to provide an excellent and timely assistance to all requests from members of the public, as well as, to foster closer Socio-Economic cooperation with ASEAN and its member countries. AS such, the High Commission is closely coordinating with the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Member States to reach this objective.
